Belly Dance and the Feminine Image

History shows us through paintings that the veil became a symbol of untouchable women and irresistible in the Middle East. To show a small part of the body was alluring enough to make men pine for the affection of women. If you look at 19th century paintings of different scenes of women dancing, the appearance of belly dancing is very refined.
